What are the steps in getting certified?

Apply for certification. Complete and submit your application online by clicking here. The application form includes details about your company, plant, products, and ingredients used. Please note that all fields must be filled out. Once you have sent in an application, you will receive a call from one of our friendly representatives who will assist you throughout the process.   1. Using our high tech KCert System, kindly submit all ingredients used in the manufacturing of all products produced at your company. Should you require any assistance, please contact our offices at 1 866 739-6363.
  2. After receipt of your application, an inspection of your production facilities will be conducted, should this be necessary. If any procedures are required to certify your facilities, they would be detailed at this time.
  3. Enter into a contract with the MK- Canada’s Kosher Certifier, which authorizes you to use the MK registered trademark on your products.
  4. Your product is certified kosher MK! With your approval, your certified products will be listed in the MK Food Guide, on our website, Facebook, Twitter , Instagram and in our various other print and web publications. Congratulations!
How fast does it take to get kosher certified?

Going kosher can be really quick. Some companies can be kosher certified in just one week! One significant factor which affects timing is how quickly the company enters all the ingredients into our system. The faster the company does so, the quicker they will get certified!

What is the fee structure of becoming kosher certified? 

Our fee is based on the complexity of koshering procedures required, amount of visits needed per year, and location. Our prices are extremely affordable and all included, no extras or hidden fees.

What does Pas Yisroel mean? 

In Jewish law, Pas Yisroel or Pat Yisrael (Hebrew: פת ישראלlit:”Bread of an Israelite”) products are grain-products which were cooked or baked with the participation of an observant Jew.

What is MK’s Pas Yisroel Policy?

The policy of the MK is that all pareve baked products certified by the MK are to be considered Pas Yisrael, with the exclusion of pretzels.

Par-baked products certified by the MK may only be considered Pas Yisrael when the finishing of the baking process is carried out by a religious individual. Some kosher consumers only consume Pas Yisroel baked products. 

What does Cholov Yisroel mean?

Cholov Yisroel (literally Jewish milk) dairy products mean that a Jew is present from the milking of the cow up until the milk is bottled or the dairy product is packaged. Some kosher customers only consume Cholov Yisroel dairy products. 

How do I know if a dairy item is certified as Cholov Yisroel?

When an MK product is marked “Dairy” with no specific mention of “Cholov Yisroel” it is not Cholov Yisroel. There will be a specific mention of “Cholov Yisroel” when a product is Cholov Yisroel.

MayI buy popcorn that isn’t certified at a cinema?

No. One must ensure that there is a Kosher certification on popcorn purchased at a cinema. The oil or flavours used in the popcorn machine may not be kosher and therefore the popcorn may not be Kosher. 

May I buy cut up fruit from a supermarket?

When buying cut up fruit at a supermarket, ensure it’s under Kosher Certification. Who knows what other products that knife may have been used for? For example, the knife could have been used to slice non-kosher meat. 

May I use a microwave that is non-kosher food in order to heat up my kosher food?

Yes, You can! Just ensure that your food is double wrapped before placing it in the microwave.

May I buy black plain black coffee at any rest stop?
Do vitamins require Kosher certification? 

Yes they do! Vitamins must be kosher certified as some vitamins contain non-kosher gelatins, or are produced on a line with non-kosher items such as gelatin. 

Do Ricollas require Kosher Certification?

Plain ricolas with no liquid filling are kosher even with no certification. The ones filled with liquid require kosher certification. 

Who are the rabbis at MK Kosher?
